I was running down one of the major streets that cuts through my neighborhood in Los Angeles and saw another runner coming toward me.
It’s interesting running six feet apart, by the way.
As we passed each other, we made eye contact. I gave him a nod. He gave me a quick wave with his left hand.
A runner’s handshake. A quick acknowledgment of the current circumstances and an appreciation for the joy running brings.
It’s also as if we communicated to each other at that moment, “We’re in this together. We’re going to get through this. We’re going to keep running.”
That small, simple, efficient gesture gave me a ton of comfort.
It also reminded me of an important tip – don’t just talk with your hands and your body. Communicate through them.
We’re in this together. We’re going to get through this. We’re going to keep running.
